Warrior Arms PVE Guide

Arms Warrior is a proc-driven physical DPS specialization built around Rend, Overpower, Sudden Death Execute and strong weapon-based attacks. The rotation changes constantly according to Taste for Blood and Sudden Death procs, while Bladestorm and Sweeping Strikes provide powerful burst and cleave.

10. Rotation

Arms doesn’t have a strict rotation — it’s a priority system.

Opener

Priority

  • Keep Rend on the target at all times.
  • Use Mortal Strike on cooldown.
  • Use Execute when available (especially in execute phase), without delaying Mortal Strike.
  • Use Overpower whenever it procs.
  • Use Slam as filler.
  • Use Heroic Strike only as a rage dump at high rage.

AoE

Armor utility if needed

  • If your raid has no Warrior tank keeping stacks, help maintain 5 stacks of Sunder Armor (only if assigned / needed).

Stats and gearing

Reach 8% Hit, or 263 Hit Rating, to remove the miss chance from melee special attacks against raid bosses.

26 Expertise is the soft cap and removes boss dodges when attacking from behind. Stay behind the target whenever encounter mechanics allow it so parries are removed from the normal attack table.

Armor Penetration is exceptionally strong because almost all Arms damage is physical. Battle Stance provides 10% Armor Penetration, so 1260 Armor Penetration Rating from gear reaches the effective 100% cap while remaining in Battle Stance. Any Armor Penetration beyond the effective cap provides no additional damage.

Around 50% Critical Strike provides strong late-game scaling. Critical strikes contribute directly to Deep Wounds and help maintain Wrecking Crew, while Glyph of Heroic Strike can return Rage when Heroic Strike critically strikes.

Strength remains a strong throughput stat after the important caps because each point provides Attack Power and increases the damage of nearly every physical ability.

Haste is considerably less important than Hit, Armor Penetration, Strength and Critical Strike because Arms relies heavily on ability damage and a slow two-handed weapon rather than rapid auto-attacks.

Battle Stance

Battle Stance is the normal PvE stance for Arms.

Its 10% Armor Penetration is a major part of the gearing setup and is the reason only 1260 Armor Penetration Rating is required from gear to reach the effective cap.

Remain in Battle Stance throughout normal damage unless a specific encounter requires an ability from another stance.

Unnecessary stance switching can cost Rage and remove the permanent Armor Penetration advantage for the duration of the switch.

Rend

Rend is the foundation of the Arms priority because it enables Taste for Blood.

Keep Rend active on the primary target throughout sustained combat.

Taste for Blood allows every second Rend tick to activate Overpower. Losing Rend therefore costs both the bleed itself and future Overpower opportunities.

Allow Rend to expire naturally before refreshing it whenever possible. Refreshing it too early can interfere with the next Taste for Blood trigger and wastes remaining bleed damage.

Glyph of Rending increases Rend's duration by 6 seconds, reducing the number of globals required to maintain it and giving more room for Overpower, Execute, Mortal Strike and Slam.

Taste for Blood and Overpower

Overpower is one of the highest-value attacks in the Arms priority.

Taste for Blood activates Overpower from Rend ticks, giving regular access to the ability even when the boss does not dodge attacks.

Use Taste for Blood Overpower procs before they are overwritten by the next proc cycle.

Overpower costs very little Rage, deals strong weapon damage and receives a greatly increased Critical Strike chance from Improved Overpower. These characteristics make it more important than ordinary filler abilities.

At low Rage, Overpower is especially valuable because it allows meaningful damage without exhausting resources needed for the next ability.

Sudden Death and Execute

Sudden Death allows Execute to be used even when the target is above 20% health.

Use these Execute procs quickly. Sudden Death has no internal cooldown, so delaying an existing proc creates the possibility of losing another Execute opportunity.

Sudden Death also guarantees that some Rage remains after Execute, helping preserve enough resources for important abilities such as Overpower.

Above 20% boss health, treat Execute as a high-priority proc rather than something that replaces the entire normal rotation.

When the target falls below 20%, Execute becomes the dominant Rage spender and the rotation changes substantially.

Execute phase

Below 20% target health, Execute becomes the primary damage ability.

Spend most available Rage on Execute while continuing to react to valuable Overpower opportunities, particularly when Rage is too low for a worthwhile Execute.

Rend can still provide Taste for Blood procs, but the value of spending globals on ordinary Mortal Strike and Slam usage falls sharply once unrestricted Execute becomes available.

Do not enter the final phase with unnecessary Rage starvation. Rage generated just before 20% can immediately be converted into powerful Execute casts.

Heroic Strike should also be used more carefully during execute range because consuming too much Rage on the next melee swing can weaken the following Execute.

Mortal Strike

Mortal Strike provides reliable direct damage and should be used after higher-priority Rend maintenance and important Overpower or Sudden Death opportunities are handled.

Glyph of Mortal Strike increases its damage by 10%, strengthening the ability throughout sustained combat.

Its healing-reduction component is rarely the reason to use it in PvE, but it can have encounter-specific utility against enemies that restore health.

Mortal Strike should not cause a Taste for Blood Overpower or Sudden Death Execute proc to be lost merely because its cooldown has finished.

Slam

Slam is the primary filler when no higher-priority proc or ability needs attention.

With Improved Slam, its cast time becomes short enough to fit efficiently between weapon swings and priority abilities.

Use Slam when Rend is safe, no Overpower or Sudden Death Execute needs to be consumed and Mortal Strike does not have higher immediate value.

Do not begin Slam immediately before movement or a mechanic that will interrupt the cast.

Slam costs Rage, so filling every possible global with it is not always correct when resources are low. Pooling enough Rage for upcoming priority attacks can provide more value.

Heroic Strike

Heroic Strike is a next-swing Rage dump rather than part of the normal global-cooldown rotation.

Use it when Rage is high enough that replacing the next white attack will not leave you unable to cast Overpower, Execute or another important ability.

Avoid queuing Heroic Strike automatically at low Rage. Because it replaces a normal melee swing, you lose both its Rage cost and the Rage that the replaced white attack would have generated.

Glyph of Heroic Strike restores 10 Rage whenever Heroic Strike critically strikes, which becomes valuable with the high Critical Strike levels reached in late-game gear.

At very high Rage, queue Heroic Strike aggressively to avoid reaching the 100-Rage cap.

Rage management

Arms damage depends heavily on maintaining enough Rage for proc-driven abilities without allowing Rage to cap.

Rage is generated by auto-attacks and incoming damage and is spent on most of the active rotation.

Avoid reaching 100 Rage because additional generation is wasted.

At the same time, do not continuously spend Rage on Slam and Heroic Strike if an Overpower, Mortal Strike or Sudden Death Execute will require resources immediately afterward.

Heroic Strike is usually the first optional ability to reduce when Rage becomes limited.

Good Arms gameplay alternates naturally between periods of aggressive Rage dumping and periods of short resource pooling.

Bladestorm

Bladestorm is Arms' major offensive cooldown and performs repeated Whirlwind attacks during its duration.

Before activating it, make sure Rend has enough duration remaining that it will not expire during the channel.

Consume an existing Taste for Blood Overpower and Sudden Death Execute before entering Bladestorm so valuable procs are not lost while normal attacks are unavailable.

Use Bladestorm early enough to gain additional activations during long encounters.

Against multiple targets, its value increases dramatically because every Whirlwind pulse can strike several enemies.

It can also maintain damage during mechanics that move or pull the Warrior while other abilities would be difficult to use.

Sweeping Strikes

Sweeping Strikes causes the next five melee attacks to strike an additional nearby enemy.

It is one of the strongest two-target tools available to Arms.

Combine it with high-damage attacks and, when targets remain stacked, Bladestorm for exceptional cleave.

Do not spend Sweeping Strikes during a single-target portion of an encounter if an important second target will appear shortly.

Because the effect is limited by attack count, getting powerful weapon attacks duplicated is more valuable than allowing the charges to expire unused.

Bladestorm and proc timing

Bladestorm locks out the normal Arms priority for its duration.

Check three things before pressing it:

Rend should remain active.

The current Taste for Blood Overpower should already be consumed.

Any available Sudden Death Execute should already be used.

This prevents the cooldown from blocking higher-priority proc usage.

Passive trinket procs can also create excellent Bladestorm windows, but do not hold Bladestorm so long for a perfect proc that an additional full use is lost during the encounter.

Sunder Armor and raid utility

If nobody else maintains the major Armor reduction effect, Arms can help keep five stacks of Sunder Armor on the boss.

This is a raid-damage responsibility rather than a personal-DPS optimization. The Armor reduction benefits every physical damage dealer in the raid.

If a Protection Warrior, another Warrior or a Rogue with Expose Armor already provides the equivalent effect, do not spend unnecessary globals maintaining Sunder Armor yourself.

Coordinate the responsibility before the pull so multiple players do not waste globals applying the same debuff.

Blood Frenzy

Rend and Deep Wounds enable Blood Frenzy.

Besides increasing personal attack speed, Blood Frenzy increases the physical damage taken by affected enemies, making Arms valuable to raids with several physical DPS players.

Maintaining Rend therefore supports both the personal Taste for Blood rotation and raid-wide physical damage.

This is another reason Rend uptime should be treated as a core priority rather than as an optional bleed.

Movement and uptime

Arms depends heavily on remaining within melee range.

Charge helps reconnect to targets when combat conditions permit it.

Intercept can provide additional mobility when the appropriate stance and encounter situation allow it.

Nitro Boosts are extremely useful for large repositioning because every second spent outside melee range costs auto-attacks, Rage generation and ability usage.

Plan movement around Rend and proc timers whenever possible.

If you know that a mechanic will force movement shortly, avoid beginning Slam immediately before leaving range and spend available instant procs first.

AoE and cleave

Keep Rend active on a durable target so Taste for Blood continues generating Overpower procs.

Use Sweeping Strikes when at least two worthwhile targets are available.

Use Bladestorm against stacked groups for extremely strong burst AoE.

Cleave replaces Heroic Strike as the next-swing Rage dump when several targets are in melee range.

Against only two targets, continue the normal single-target priority while Sweeping Strikes duplicates attacks.

Against larger groups, Sweeping Strikes and Bladestorm become the center of the damage window rather than repeatedly building a separate rotation on every enemy.

Defensive utility

Arms still has access to important Warrior defensive tools even while filling a DPS role.

Defensive Stance and Shield Wall can be used when survival is more important than maintaining maximum damage.

Spell Reflection can handle certain encounter-specific spells.

Intervene can assist with movement or protecting another raid member.

These abilities may require stance or equipment changes, so use them deliberately rather than accidentally disrupting the normal Battle Stance damage cycle.

Surviving dangerous mechanics is more valuable than preserving one additional Slam or Heroic Strike.

Glyph effects

Glyph of Rending extends Rend by 6 seconds, reducing refresh frequency and creating more room for the proc-based rotation.

Glyph of Mortal Strike increases Mortal Strike damage by 10%.

Glyph of Heroic Strike restores 10 Rage when Heroic Strike critically strikes, making the Rage dump considerably more efficient at high Critical Strike levels.

This setup favors sustained Mortal Strike damage and Rage efficiency while preserving the longer Rend required for consistent Taste for Blood gameplay.

Glyph of Execution is another established single-target option, while Glyph of Cleaving can be useful for encounters with regular multi-target damage, but neither is required to change the core Arms priority.

Consumables and cooldown timing

Flask of Endless Rage provides consistent Attack Power throughout the encounter.

Fish Feast is a practical general raid food, while Dragonfin Filet provides additional Strength.

An Indestructible Potion can be used roughly one minute before the pull so its Armor bonus remains active into combat while the potion cooldown finishes.

A Potion of Speed can then be used immediately before the pull, allowing another combat potion later.

The Armor from Indestructible Potion also gains offensive value when the talent setup converts Armor into Attack Power.

Use the later Potion of Speed during uninterrupted melee uptime and, when practical, alongside strong trinket effects or another offensive window.

Hyperspeed Accelerators provide another temporary Haste effect and should be used while the target can be attacked continuously.
