You place the totems at the raid’s position before the pull so that players’ first casts are already covered. After the pull, you move the totems to where they’re needed.

If you leave the totems at the entrance, they won’t reach.
Lady Deathwhisper
Assume the casters are hitting the boss near the center. If you place the totems under the boss, they won’t reach, so drop them on the stairs. In phase two, place them in the center, since the boss is moved around the room.
Deathbringer Saurfang
Festergut and Rotface
Drop them exactly in the center — not near the center — otherwise there’s a risk they won’t reach casters standing on the opposite side.
Professor Putricide
Place them so they definitely reach players standing against the table. If you drop them on the inner edge of the ring, they won’t reach. In the last phase, if the boss is dragged, move the totems to wherever the boss is taken, making sure they still reach the casters.
Blood Prince Council
Place them so they reach casters standing around the perimeter. If you drop them too far up the stairs, they sometimes won’t reach casters standing a bit farther away.
Blood Queen Lana’Thel
Place them so the totems will still reach during the air phase.
Sindragosa
Place them so the totems reach players standing at the edge for Unchained Magic.
