Threat Redirection Guide. How to pre-pull?
All players who interact with threat should have the Omen addon. This includes anyone who can pull aggro, reduce threat, or redirect threat before the pull—specifically: all tanks, Rogues, Hunters, Warlocks (with pets), Paladins, Feral Cats, Mages, and Warriors.
ToC
All bosses except Faction Champions: 1 pre-pull onto the tank on the pull, then swap Tricks (if there are 2 Rogues) or use Tricks on the top DPS (remember that Tricks does not stack with damage-increasing buffs, such as Cat Berserk or Warrior Death Wish).
ICC
This depends on how reliable the tanks are and how strong the Hunters are, but in general: 1 pre-pull onto the tank on the pull, then swap Tricks (if there are 2 Rogues) or use Tricks on the top DPS, using a macro to cancel threat redirection (remember that Tricks does not stack with damage-increasing buffs, such as Cat Berserk or Warrior Death Wish).
Hunters keep pre-pulling the boss onto the tank (2–3 pre-pulls) if Omen shows it’s needed.
At the same time, trash is pre-pulled onto the off-tank (Prot Paladin / Prot Warrior), and bosses are pre-pulled onto the main tank (Blood DK / Bear).
Exceptions: the off-tank becomes the main tank in Plagueworks (all 3 bosses), on Blood Princes, and on Blood-Queen Lana’thel (after the first bite). On Lana’thel, Hunter pre-pulls are enough; Rogues can use Tricks on the bite targets.
On Lady Deathwhisper 25 Heroic: pre-pull onto the Main Tank on cooldown for the entire fight.
Pre-pulls on Lich King transitions:
- First Hunter + First Rogue: pre-pull Spirits 1 and 3
- Second Hunter + Second Rogue: pre-pull Spirits 2 and 4
Assigned by the Raid Leader; usually Party 1 does 1 and 3, and Party 2 does 2 and 4.
RS
Phase 1: 1 pre-pull onto the tank on the pull, then swap Tricks (if there are 2 Rogues) or use Tricks on the top DPS (remember that Tricks does not stack with damage-increasing buffs, such as Warrior Death Wish).
Starting from the second pre-pull, Hunters pre-pull the big mob using a macro to the Main Tank, and Rogues pre-pull the small trash onto the Off Tank (AoE build required). Remember that you cannot use Explosive Trap while threat redirection is active, otherwise the small trash will run to the Main Tank, grow next to the big mob, and wipe the raid.
Phase 2: when entering the twilight realm, all pre-pulls go to the Main Tank.
Phase 3: Hunters pre-pull the big mob using a macro to the Main Tank, and Rogues pre-pull the small trash onto the Off Tank (AoE build required).
