lazyscan

lazyscan is a minimap scanner for Herbalism and Mining on the WoW WotLK 3.3.5a client. The production source is release 1.2; its TOC declares interface 30300 and addon version 1.0. It watches the minimap and uses the tooltip text of gathering objects to identify supported ore and herb nodes while the character is moving through a zone.

What lazyscan detects

The bundled data covers gathering nodes from Classic, Outland, and Northrend, with English and Russian names. The list includes WotLK materials such as Cobalt, Saronite, Titanium, Goldclover, Lichbloom, Icethorn, and Frost Lotus, as well as lower-expansion nodes. lazyscan can compare a node with the character's Mining or Herbalism skill and classify its gathering difficulty. This helps filter out nodes that are not useful for the current profession level instead of treating every tooltip as a target.

The scan is tied to the minimap and the game's tracking system. Mining characters need Find Minerals active, and herbalists need Find Herbs active. If neither tracking type is detected, lazyscan warns in chat and can play a separate tracking warning sound. The addon is not a rare-NPC scanner, a quest database, or a loot tracker: its scan target is gathering nodes represented on the minimap.

Alerts and node filters

When a configured node is found, lazyscan can print an alert, play a sound, and flash the screen. The flash color and sound effect are configurable, and the package includes several built-in sound choices. A separate error-frame notification option can surface messages through the client error area. These alerts are useful when the node appears at the edge of the minimap while the player is watching the road or avoiding a mob.

The settings contain separate enabled-node lists for ores and herbs. Disable node names that are irrelevant to the current route, profession, or skill level; for example, a high-level miner can hide low-value early deposits while keeping Northrend ore enabled. The scan interval, minimap zoom behaviour, high-level-node detection, restart delay, and whether scanning pauses during combat or while resting can also be configured.

How a gathering run works

1. Learn Mining or Herbalism, activate the corresponding Find Minerals or Find Herbs tracking, and open lazyscan from its minimap button or with /lazyscan.
2. Choose the node names that matter for the route. Keep both ore and herb lists available if the character uses both professions, or disable the unused category to reduce alerts.
3. Start scanning and travel normally. lazyscan checks the minimap in real time, pauses around configured gameplay states such as combat when that option is enabled, and reports matching node tooltips with the selected visual or audio alert.
4. When the route is complete, stop scanning before changing the tracking mode or beginning another activity. If the minimap becomes difficult to use, disable scanning temporarily rather than leaving every alert active.

Commands and integrations

The confirmed commands are:

• /lazyscan and /lscan open or toggle the settings panel.
• /lazyscan toggle switches scanning on or off.
• /lazyscan start starts the scanner.
• /lazyscan stop stops the scanner.

The addon also provides a key binding for toggling the scanner. The source includes compatibility handling for ElvUI Farm Mode and FarmHUD, allowing their supported minimap-style displays to be used as scan targets. If Routes is installed for drawing gathering routes, lazyscan's source specifically requires the updated Routes version linked by the project; older Routes versions are reported as incompatible.

Limitations and troubleshooting

• If no nodes are detected, first check the profession tracking icon. lazyscan expects the active tracking texture for Find Minerals or Find Herbs; having the profession without enabling tracking is not enough.
• If a node is ignored, check its English or Russian name in the enabled-node list and verify that the node is not excluded by skill-tier or high-level-node settings. A custom-server object name may not match the bundled data.
• If the scan interrupts normal minimap interaction, stop the scanner or change the pause and mouse-related settings. The 3.3.5a API has a known limitation where left-click mouse-look can occasionally be consumed during scanning; ordinary clicks on mobs, objects, and UI elements are not the affected case described by the source.
• If alerts are silent, check the selected sound, node-sound and tracking-sound options, and the client sound channel. Chat and error-frame notifications are separate from the audio alert.
• If ElvUI Farm Mode, FarmHUD, or Routes does not work with the scanner, test lazyscan with the standard minimap first and use the updated compatible integration version. The addon does not provide a replacement map database for unsupported integrations.

lazyscan is a legacy 3.3.5a minimap scanner. It identifies what the client exposes through minimap and tooltip data; it does not guarantee that every custom-server gathering object, altered name, or modified tracking implementation will be recognized.

Installation

1. Download the release archive and copy the lazyscan folder into World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns.
2. If a source archive creates a folder named lazyscan-master, rename it to lazyscan so lazyscan.toc is directly inside the addon folder.
3. Enable the addon at character selection, activate profession tracking in-game, and test one node before starting a longer route.
